We are a Northern Michigan-based investment firm owned by Maggie and Josh Traeger, focused on backing local, values-driven businesses through disciplined, long-term capital.
We partner with operators who are building practical, durable companies that contribute meaningfully to the communities they serve. Our approach is grounded in the belief that strong businesses—run by principled owners—create lasting value not only for themselves, but for the broader region.
We are not a venture capital firm, nor are we driven by rapid scale or speculative growth. Instead, we prioritize stability, consistency, and alignment. We invest in businesses that are built to last.
Our Investment Approach
We focus on Northern Michigan businesses that are operating or near-term revenue generating, providing essential or enduring products and services, built upon clear demand and understandable business models.
We are drawn to businesses that can perform through economic cycles and continue serving their communities over time.
Our capital is modest by design, allowing us to build a diversified portfolio while maintaining discipline in how we deploy resources. We view each investment as part of a broader strategy centered on steady returns, not isolated outcomes.
Our preferred structures reflect how real businesses operate. Rather than relying on future exits, we emphasize revenue-share or profit-based returns that provide consistent cash flow over time. These structures are often paired with a limited equity component, ensuring that we participate in long-term upside while maintaining a primary focus on near- and mid-term performance.
How We Evaluate Opportunities
Our evaluation process is practical and grounded in experience. We spend our time understanding the operator, the business, and the path to consistent performance.
We are less concerned with projections and more focused on what is already working—or clearly within reach. We invest where there is clarity, discipline, and a strong likelihood of steady execution. In particular, we look for:
- Operators with integrity, resilience, and a demonstrated commitment to their business
- Clear, understandable revenue streams with evidence of demand
- Business models that are practical, repeatable, and not overly complex
- The ability to generate consistent cash flow without reliance on a future sale
- A structure that provides a clear and reasonable path to return of capital
Our Role and Expectations
We are not operators; our role is to provide aligned capital and to be a steady, reliable partner over time.
We are passive, supportive investors. We do not seek to operate businesses or influence day-to-day decisions. We respect that the business belongs to the operator. In return, we expect clear communication, consistent reporting, and alignment around the structure and timeline of the investment. We value transparency and straightforward relationships.
